Can I get council approval for a container home in Australia?

Yes. Container homes can be approved in Australia, but approval depends on your land, zoning, local council requirements, design, engineering, and compliance documentation. Container Homes helps clients prepare council-ready plans and guides them through the permit process.

What plans do I need for council approval?

You typically need floor plans, elevations, site plans, and supporting consultant documentation such as engineering, survey, energy assessment, and certification requirements depending on your project and council.

Do you help with permits and council submission?

Yes. Container Homes helps new clients through the process of preparing plans for council submission, understanding the approval pathway, and connecting with the necessary consultants required for permits.

How much does your design and council preparation service cost?

Our design and council preparation service is $4,000 plus GST. This includes working with the client on the design, preparing plans suitable for permit submission, guidance through the process, and introductions to necessary consultants.

Are the plans you design suitable for permit submission?

Yes. The plans we design with the client are prepared so they can be used as part of the permit or council submission process, subject to any additional reports, engineering, certifications, or requirements requested by council or certifiers.

Who are the consultants needed for a container home project?

Depending on the project, consultants may include a structural engineer, surveyor, private certifier, energy assessor, bushfire consultant, flood consultant, town planner, or other specialists required by council.

Do I need a DA or CDC for a container home?

Some projects may require a Development Application, while others may qualify for a Complying Development Certificate. The correct pathway depends on your property, zoning, design, council rules, and compliance requirements.

Can you help if I already own land?

Yes. If you already own land, we can help review the project requirements, design a container home to suit the site, and guide you toward the next steps for council or certifier approval.

Can you introduce me to engineers and certifiers?

Yes. As part of our service, we can introduce clients to necessary consultants such as engineers, certifiers, surveyors, and other professionals required to move the project toward approval.

What is the first step to start a container home project?

The first step is to speak with Container Homes so we can understand your land, goals, budget, and approval needs. From there, we can begin the design and council preparation process.
